Although it was in the thirties today with high winds, Spring is here!
Ivy thinks so too- he spent a good half hour following me around the yard while I took pictures of any evidence I could find of Spring. He also made a pretty good subject.
Look at that profile! He's such a handsome cat.
I presented my senior honors thesis at the Easter Sociological Society's annual meeting this past weekend in Boston. A little intimidating, but it went well (minus some blisters from my cute new shoes). Since Mark's from Hanover we stayed at his parents house, which of course meant making sure we raced out to Hull to watch the sunset over the Boston skyline one of the nights. We never make it in time to see the whole thing, but it's always still beautiful when we get there.
I love Hull sunsets. Also, how cute is Mark?
Anyway, it's just a lazy Friday night and I'm blogging. So lame. Whatever, I'm okay with that. Welcome, Spring!
I love Etsy.com, and recently I've come across a few good finds that I want to share.
Stevester's Etsy shop is full of clothes that I want, and I bought a couple recently:These shirts came with a free tote with a dragonfly printed on it!
Botanical Bird has some beautiful jewelry. So far I've gotten a necklace and a pair of earrings, which I love.
It's spring break, so I can finally focus on something OTHER than schoolwork, my thesis, the market, etc. Today's really rainy and I slept till 2:30.
A couple weeks ago there was a lot of rain/melting of snow, and since we live around a whole lot of farmland there were plenty of beautiful reflections that caught my attention. Mark and I drove around some and stopped here and there to take some pictures.
I've been wondering for a long time what these structures are in the fields- any ideas? *edit: I found out that these are tobacco fields. Apparently there's a big tobacco industry in Western MA. Who knew?*
I'll never get sick of how gorgeous all the fields are out here. Western Mass is so pretty!
I spent some time in Mark's analytical chem lab a couple weekends back while he had to run some experiments. It was a good opportunity for me to take pictures of things I'm never really around, me being all social-science-oriented. I also had fun playing with Depth of Field.
For Valentine's Day Mark got me a couple Cyclamen plants- one in pink and one in white. They're my new favorite!
Most of my time outside of class is spent at the market (People's Market), and lately I've taken to bringing my D5000 with me on Fridays when I don't have class and things are laid back. We've got a chalkboard between the registers where we write notes to each other.
This is Scrib packing his favorite tobacco pipe outside the Student Union. His tobacco smells sooo good.
Here's a fraction of the hundreds of geese that frequent the campus pond- they are literally there year-round.
These guys call themselves Coyote Choir, and we came across them on the streets of Northampton. Their harmonies are amazing, and it's not every day you see an accordion player. They've played a couple of local shows recently, and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of them.
This band is called Darlingside, and I went to grade school with the drummer, Sam Kapala. He was amazing in high school, and he still is. I was shocked, given the fact that I come from a tiny town and never see anyone from home EVER when I'm in the Valley, to hear that he and his band were actually living the town over from where I am now. We went to The Basement to see them one night, and they were incredible. I was really, really impressed. They're playing a show with Nada Surf at Pearl Street in Noho in a couple weeks, which I'll be going to.
Well I guess it's 7:30, I should probably eat something. I think I'll try to blog more in the future. So, look forward to it?
