Using my camera

The other night I was coming home from All Staff (the weekly staff meeting for the student-run co-op I work for, People's Market) when I looked up at the sky and noticed a halo around the moon. It freaked me out, but once I convinced myself it probably wasn't aliens I couldn't stop looking at it. When I got home I decided it'd be a good opportunity to try my first long exposure on the D5000. Took a bit to figure out that it had to be in live view mode in order to work, and it was also hard to focus in live view, but here's what I came out with:

I was pretty pleased, and it was fun experimenting with the long exposure settings on this camera. I look forward to doing this again- maybe some star trails? We'll see.

These rings are the result of light refracting through the ice crystals in the atmosphere, and it's rumored to be the sign of bad weather to come. Two days later? Snow day. Awesome.
